Meeting Information - March 2008 This past Tuesday evening several NPCC members attended a meeting at North Way Christian Community Church concerning the Friday evening Wexford StarLite Car Cruises ( http://www.starlitecarcruise.com/). 03/05/08 Meeting
North Way Christian Community Church held the first Wexford Starlite Cruise in 2001 and a 2nd cruise was held in 2002 on a snowy day in late October. In 2003 the cruise became a weekly event. On a regular basis between 150 & 200 cars attend the early cruises, now the number is well over 900 cars per cruise. In 2007 they had only 2 cruises cancelled by weather in 18 weeks. The first cruise for 2008 will be held May 2nd. Approximately 300 Dash Plaques will be available on a first come basis at the first and last cruise of the year and the 2nd Friday of each month.
The church is expanding and the property is being reconfigured. A new paved upper parking lot to the north of the church will hold an additional 350+ cars with more parking on the grass around the new parking lot for show cars and visitors. The new configuration could hold a total of 2000+ cars. Approximately 60 parking spots will be lost in the lower lot for 2008 because of construction. They should return in 2009. A drive and a walkway and steps will connect the 2 areas for vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The drive may be 2-way for vehicles or 1 way on one side to the upper parking lot for vehicles and 2-way on the other side for pedestrians
Because of current construction to the church buildings traffic flow will become a big problem. The regular lower entrance will probably still be used, with all cars being ask to exit from the upper parking lot onto Wallace Road Extension and entering Rt. 19 at the light at the top of the hill to the north.
The vendor area will probably be moved to the south side of Pit Road and the motorcycles to the north side or behind the church. Feature Row will stay in the same place with the DJ Booth in the center.
Things may be messed up this year but be better next year. It will be a Temporary Inconvenience for a Permanent Improvement.
They also plan on updating and improving their web site with more pictures and information. It may also include links to clubs and their events.
They are currently working on a schedule for Feature Nights in 2008.
The local car clubs are being asked to provide help and support to keep the cruise going. Man power is needed for parking, traffic control, and security. Traffic vests, flashlights, and flags will be provided for the workers. 30-40 people are needed every Friday night. Volunteers can join teams at the church that are scheduled to work once every 4 weeks or they can volunteer on a weekly basis.
The church spent $20,000 in 2007 for the cruises. Local clubs can also provide financial help, such as an idea presented by Joe Lebert of providing dash plaques for a cruise.
